On the weather forecast they just predicted that it will start to snow in Belgium anytime now! I'm so happy :D! I love snow. It's so cosy and it creates such a magical atmosphere. It is therefore I wanted to share with you all a film that, in my opinion, really captures this magical feeling and transports you to another world. It is also an adaptation of a book by Raymond Briggs, i.e. The Snowman. The Snowman is a wonderful film. It creates a heartwarming cosy and cuddly wintery feeling. The word in Danish that really encompasses the meaning of all these words, is hyggelig! :D Enjoy! The film you could see here and which I can highly recommend (also suited for very small children!!) was the screen adaptation of one of my favourite books when I was little, Father Christmas. There is always a beautiful second book: Father Christmas Goes on Holiday. Father Christmas was given to me by my granny when I was four. Even today I still love the book and the film as they're so whimsical and endearing. You cannot help falling in love with Christmas and Father Christmas after you've seen this. :p The 'people' of illuminated film took all versions of it down from YouTube. All links kept failing to show on my blog and said that was why. Sadly for them, they seem to forget that, if people love it on YouTube, they are more likely to buy it. That's because they know for sure that they love it because they got to see it. In this knowledge they no longer have to doubt whether or not to buy it, afraid to loose money, but they just buy it and maybe even buy one or more as a gift for others too. This is an interview with the writer istället (with some sneek peeks from the film!):
I know I said I wasn't going to be using the abbreviation Amps myself, but because the lovely ladies of this wonderful project named it that way, I think I should keep it that way : ) Amps for Africa is a project that wants to help girls being able to attend school all the time, even when they are menstruating. For most of us this being able to attend school will sound very normal, most of us even take it for granted, but that´s not the case for everyone. For a lot of girls and women it´s still a luxury. In Africa (and probably a lot of other parts of the world) a lot of girls and women do not have access to any or any appropriate menstrual products while on their periods and therefore they cannot attend school while menstruating. This makes them miss out on about a week every month, which is a lot, since schooling is beneficial for every possible life aspect and highly benefits positive life outcomes later in life. Amps for Africa is then thus an organization that donates reusable menstrual products to school girls in Africa so that they can attend school while on their periods. You can make or donate them, thus everyone interested can take part! For those of you who want a little more background reading on what it´s like for a girl in Africa to go to school while on her period and how being a girl therefore sadly still affects schooling I highly recommend you read the following article. For those of you that want to join this great project: If you like to make some pads or wet bags yourself or want to donate undies or stain stick: https://www.facebook.com/groups/120309314723583/?fref=ts https://www.facebook.com/groups/1410995545791022/?fref=ts !! They also accept menstrual cups if you would like to donate one you just have laying around!! The menstrual cup that does not fit your needs can make a world of a difference to someone else! If you like to donate pads but can't sew or the shipping is to expensive, you can also buy pads, wet bags and stain sticks on the following website. All items you buy will be integrally donated to the girls in Africa! My donation certificate: I feel so happy that I learned to sew, because now I can contribute not just by donating pads, but by making them myself! I will also be making some wet bags and pad wrappers. I will also be donating my two Si-bell cups as they do not fit my body shape. They will make a great cup now for someone who really needs one! Photos of my donation! (most of the pads are new and all have been washed! some I bought a couple especially for this project, some I decided to donate just because I just wanted to give something that belonged to me, and a few that I used only a couple of times, and I also sewed two myself, and more will come if I find the time, just like two pouches for the two Si-Bells and a few wet bags and pad wrappers (photos of the latter still to come as they are not yet finished)) Today I bumped into this amazing article in which you can see teddy bears. Not just any teddy bears though, grown-up teddy bears. These are teddy bears that were so loved by their child-owner they even kept them when they were already adults. I really believe that it's fantastic that some people still have their teddybear! Especially if you now how many others have let go of their inner child and sparkle. Maybe it's naive of me, but I believe everyone should keep their inner child alive and believe in magic, in that miracles can happen. I don't say this to be childish or silly. No, what I mean is that we've got so much to be grateful for. If you're healthy for example, that's something to be especially grateful for; without good health, everything else has got less joy too. But sadly, most of us take too much for granted, we never pause and stand still to enjoy things or to wonder about them. I therefore would like to ask you, even if it's just once a day or even every once in a while, to stand still, to look around you and to try and look at the world with new eyes, like everything is a miracle, to take a new look on the things you might 've taken for granted, like for example tap water. You will then see how much you actually have and feel so grateful. I'm sure it will make you happy, even when you might be sad at the time. The world is full of miracles for those who want to see them.
For those of you who want to read the article themselves, you can find it if you go to the following website: http://www.brainpickings.org/index.php/2014/01/23/much-loved-mark-nixon/ This is a picture of my teddy bear. Well, it's not actually a teddy bear, it's a clown. The most happy clown I've ever seen. His name is Clowns and I don't know how old he really is. I bought him from a lovely lady, who collects clowns, but she had too many. I've had Clowns for about two years now and I still get happy every time I look at him. The cardigan he's wearing was made by my late granny. I loved her loads and still think about her a lot. Having Clowns wear it makes me feel like she's still a bit with me : ) Clowns! |
