Great Lunette cup folding video!
I've watched quite a few cup folds videos on youtube now to figure out the most comfortable one upon insertion, but none of them I seemed to be able to grasp fully, read: they were to quick for me. I was too slow comprehending them :p When I came across this video by Lunette, Lunette on suomalainen kuukuppi <3!, which in English means that Lunette is a menstrual cup made in Finland, I was unsure whether to click on it or not. I was really curious, so I decided to give it a go. I'm so glad that I did! The video explains really well 9! possible cup folds :D A nice plus is that it is being showed and told what to do slowly enough that even a slowcoach like me can get it :D Happy! Thank you so much Lunette! Now I'm even more curious to try the Lunette cup. I was already very curious because everyone says it's so great, their website is awesome ie. they really seem to care about menstruation and making it easier for women (which is a big deal to me) and... It's Finnish! I love Finland and the Finnish language. I'm even studying it :D Great Lunette cup folding video!

This beauty I discovered at my local thrift store some time ago. At first I thought 'Ugh, such a horrible chest of drawers... Who would ever want that one?!?' Then, I got closer and I could swear I could see it blink at me and whisper 'Take me home with you, take me home with you... Please, do!' At that point, I was right in front of it and had the chance to have a proper look... and I fell... hard... I was madly and deeply in love with it! I just knew that this chest of drawers and I had something special, a story that should be told : ) I could just feel it in my bones. :D Luckily it was being sold at a student-friendly price so I ended up taking it home! As of today, my last exam at Uni, not CLT though!, for this term has been written, so I can't wait to get started on this little beauty on my study breaks! I do not have a clear idea yet of what I'm gonna make of it, but I'm positive the right one will spring in mind! I will keep you posted! When I have exams, sometimes, my brain goes: And then I go like: Ooooooo.... How am I gonna get all that knowledge in my head!!! And then... I just panick : ) Totally! Therefore: Huge note to self!!!! Sometimes, I just can't seem to figure out what's wrong with me. I drive myself crazy even (I've had bouts of this since I was 12 :O)! I can get this terrible fear of failure and have not yet figured out a method to get rid of it forever. I'm trying though, and until now it had worked, but the last two days, something surely is missing :O It's not funny, but on the other hand I can learn from it, so it ain't all that bad luckily. But still... Wish I could learn it like RIGHT NOW though : P : ) I'm sure tomorrow's exam would hugely benefit from it! Stressing and procrastinating (out of fear of not being able to get the knowledge from my paper into my head), I came across this photo on my laptop and it immediately made me smile and feel a bit better, so I decided to write about my fears, so I could post this cutie and share it with you :) Maybe it is in some way helpful to you too! :D Other great note to self I found that seemed to ease my anxious mood a bit: And trying to keep in mind the wonderful advice my great English professor once gave me! Now I'm off, back to my books! Wish me luck! May Zen be with you! Coffee... What can I say. To me, it is heaven in a cup. No matter how I'm feeling, if there is coffee, there is life. If I'm happy I really enjoy it and it makes me even more happy, while, if I'm sad, it will make me feel better and it will soothe me. In the morning I drink it strong, but not that strong really, for otherwise, I have to pee a lot :O O:) and in the evenings I prefer it very mild so I can still sleep. Now, I might come across as a die-hard coffee addict here but, hey, my granny learned me to drink coffee already at the age of two-and-a-half, and I still love it as much as back then, if not even more, so I guess it will be a life-long addiction ; ) I'm also quite sure it's not all that about the caffeine for me too. I love the taste and smell of coffee so much! The smell of its beans and then the smell of freshly ground beans. Hmm, it's so delicious and wonderful <3 As you can see, I'm absolutely and totally crazy about coffee :p It's like some people crave chocolate I crave coffee :p :D Because I love it so much this blogpost will be a little 'Ode to coffee' :D On Pinterest, during my study break, I stumbled upon a whole lot of great coffee pictures and I would love to share some of those with you! I hope you may enjoy them as much (or more of course :p) than I did! Njut! (Swedish for enjoy!) This hilarious Dutch song we had to sing in the last grade of primary school. It's an ode to coffee too! It's got a catchy tune to it, thus maybe it can still be quite fun if you would not speak Dutch. I love my Yuuki Classic small! That's why I bought the large! That doesn't sound all too logical does it? Let me explain. I really do love my Yuuki Classic small. I do. The only thing is, that on heavier flow days, I noticed that I leaked a bit :O (luckily I wore a cloth pad as back-up!). I could not understand as my cup was only filled up to the safety line, which sits below the air-holes. I had no clue why I then could possibly leak and at the time I also did not yet know that Yuuki has a website where you can find contact information and ask questions. On a fb-page about menstrual cups, I then discovered, to my great relief!, that it might be that my cervix sat in my cup during those heavy days. It is quite possible that this is the answer since your cervix can move up and down during your entire menstrual cycle! The lovely people on the page also suggested when such a thing happens, you can always try the larger version of the cup you already have the small one in on those heavy days. I decided to go for it, because it would not only be great for me if the larger version would be leakproof, it would also make for a great review to help those of you having the same kind of issue! :D Large vs small, a few photo's: (more to follow) Reviewing the Yuuki, I found it very important to be able to tell you something about their website, so I checked it out and I have to say that I really love it! I got the feeling that they really care about providing women with the best possible menstrual cup they can and that they also want to help you, giving clear information. I also contacted the Yuuki cup company, because I wanted to ask them if it was possible to be able to buy the Economic in the two-pack offer, since on the website they only offer that option for the Classic and the Soft. I really wanted to do a review on the Economic, as it is fairly new and it might be great for all of you to be able to know more about it, so I e-mailed them to ask if this would be possible. They were really quick in replying! And very friendly! I was so amazed and happy because it confirmed my view I had gotten of them through their website. They genuinely seem to care about the menstrual health of women :D They told me it was okay to buy them like that, so I ordered the Economic small & large in a two-pack and then also the Yuuki Large Classic. This means I can review all of them as well as compare them for you! :D Thank you very much Yuuki cup company!!! About the large Yuuki Classic:
Infusion! The Yuuki Classic comes with an infuser box to instead of a cotton pouch. An infuser? It's a plastic box especially designed to be used in the microwave to boil, and thus sterilize!, your menstrual cup. In the microwave, the box lets steam escape through the Yuuki holes in the top. When your not wearing your cup, you can also store your Yuuki in this box. Thanks to the Yuuki holes in the top, it is not airtight, so no nasty things can develop and your cup is safely stored until your next period! The Yuuki infuser box is 3.75” tall and 2.5” wide. It holds approximately 250ml. On the box itsself are the instructions for how many water you need to boil your cup (varies for the small and large) and on which wattage you have to put your microwave. The infuser is available in two colours, kelly green, and a dark reddish-pink (strawberry-like). A few photo's of the Yuuki's infuser: (more to follow) My opinion: Dry run Omgee, when my Yuuki's arrived, I just had to boil them right away and try them out like yesterday! Here you can see them boiling merrily all 4 of them together (small & large Classic and small & large economic) I was so excited that, after having boiled them, I immediately put in the Yuuki Classice Large! I have to say that I was happily shocked how easy it was to insert while not being on my period. It did not hurt and it slid in like it was nothing :D Once inside, it popped open very easily. Compared to the small, I could feel it was there, but it was not a painful feeling or anything like I had been a little bit afraid of, since I'm really tight, but it was not a hinderance or anything and easily to ignore. The only thing that did bother me though, and you may be able to guess, is its stem. Oh, I really don't like it. I tried, and I tried again, but in vain. It stabs me and it hurts and it's hollow and it traps thingies inside it (like water and bodily fluids) and not all of them are easy to get out. Now, obviously, I could trim it, but I just need it to get my cup out, so I will only do so if I can't get over my discomfort with it. Will give it another go next month : ) Exam period :p This was my first ever exam period in which I wore a menstrual cup so I was extremely excited :D One of the facts I love menstrual cups so much is namely that when you have no access to a bathroom for a longer period of time, or you do not want to be worrying about having to change or even leaking due to circumstances, with a menstrual cup you totally achieve this goal and can truly be relaxed and worry free, which is ideal when you have to sit exams! In total I had 12 exams, of which 7 during my period. I felt so lucky that cups exist and that I could try out a large one, which would sure keep me safe until after I finished my exam(s) for the day. With my period I cannot really predict which day will be heavy. It's always kind of a guess. One morning, I found myself in for a dilemma: I had not bled much the day before, nor during the night, and neither preparing myself to leave for uni to sit my exam. I did not know if I'd better wear no cup, a small cup or a large cup. I did not want to overdo it, but since I like to be safe and you may never know, I went with my gut-feeling and wore the large Yuuki Classic. During my exam I felt so at ease, because I did not have to worry about my period thanks to my cup. I can therefore highly recommend wearing one during your exams! The only thing about the Yuuki, luckily not too much during my exam, was as you can already guess, again its stem. As soon as I stood up after having finished my exam, it started poking me. I went to the toilet to readjust its position, but outside it started to poke me again. But that being said, when I finally had returned home, I took my cup out and big was my surprise: it was half full :O I was so happy. I hadn't noticed a thing during my exam, while if I would have decided to wear no cup or the small, I would probably have had some kind of panicking moment during my exam as to whether I had leaked or not. So I daresay the large Yuuki Classic has passed its exam :D One word of caution though. The large Yuuki Classic is really large and really firm. I can recommend it, but please be sure you really are sure about your cervix hight and that you like to try a very firm cup first. Also, if you are having really bad cramps you might be able to feel it. I was having really bad cramps one day and I just had to take it out. However, I could not bear much that day, except for a heat pack. I tried the Organicup as I had some studying to do and did not want to deal with feeling bloody (heavy day!). I found it sitting in my purse as my emergency cup and that one, I felt less, but that said, it is so soft that most of the time it is too soft for me, so I'm quite sure it's not the Yuuki's fault :) If you have a sensitive bladder, this also might not be the cup for you, because I heard that firm cups add too much pressure on your bladder, luckily not having one myself. Would I recommend the Yuuki Classic Large: I would! It's a lovely cup with great silicone. It makes you feel safe if you do not want to worry about overflowing your cup in an especially unwanted time and it easily pops open. Extra! I will also be doing a review on the Yuuki Economic and a comparison between the Classic and the Economic, so stay tuned! This one was a tough little guy to get the paint scraped off it! Maybe next time I will use a heater!
I'm thinking about also redecorating it's insides. When it's finished I will post those photos too! I just learned that my dear friend died. I am devastated because I will miss her terribly, but on the other hand, it will release her from her suffering as she was quite ill, being diagnosed with terminal cancer. I really loved her so very much. She was like a second gran to me (she was almost 88 year's old!). It is therefore, that, besides this beautiful poem, I would also like to post here an attempt of a 'translation' in English of the poem I wrote a few years ago in Dutch for my granny, to honour my friend in my own words. (The poem in Dutch destined for my granny, who was my best friend, I will post on February 15th, the day she died.) Attempt of an English translation of my granny's poem. I tried my best to make it as readable as possible : ) Thank you so much, Monique, for the part of the road we walked together! Emilla pads are cloth pads made by Emilla (name of the company!) in Hungary. Emilla is run by Mónika. She is absolutely lovely! I've contacted her quite a few times now and I've always been helped in the best and most friendly way! (Thank you so much Mónika!) She was inspired to start making cloth pads by her late grand mother, who learned her all about them. After her granny's death, Mónika decided to start making cloth pads so that every woman could benefit from this wonderful skill she learned from her. As a tribute to her granny she also named her company after her granny's nickname, Emilla. Instruction leaflet and sizes and dimensions of Emilla's pads: The little moon symbols indicate the absorbency! It's a little touch I really like, it's so unique and makes you smile :) The crescent moon indicates a light pad, the half-full moon, a moderate pad, and the full moon a heavy pad. The Szeléné and the Gaia do not have these indictions as these pads are always heavy pads! The Irisz also has no moon indication as it is a thong liner! I have three sizes pads from Emilla: the Afrodité in a light and in a medium flow, the Pénelopé in a light and a medium flow, and the Szeléné, heavy flow. In these pictures you can see them! I've also included a picture of my Emilla stain stick (to come) as I will be reviewing that one as well. My opinion: Emilla pads Emilla pads are gorgeous. I would highly recommend them to everyone! They are thin, super-well made and come in the cutest high quality prints you could imagine. I tried mine on a few cycles now, and I have to say they really do a great job! With my order came a handy instruction leaflet and I also received some great stickers Mónika designed herself! I love them :D She also always includes a handwritten note with a lovely message on it and in the front of the card, a drawing by herself! (will post a picture on them as I have the time!) I can clearly remember my surprise last cycle. I was not expecting to have a heavy night, but I had my Emilla Szeléné eyeing me and I thought why not, just in case... In the morning I woke up, feeling completely dry and comfortable. Even standing up and preparing to start my day, I did not get that wet feeling you sometimes have like your sitting on a puddle of blood. I then went to the bathroom, and, omgee, big surprise! My pad was completely soaked and covered in blood, but no leaks! :D Next cycle, if I want to have a comfortable and secure night, guess what I'm gonna wear to be ;-)
I can also remember wearing the Pénelopé (light flow!) when I was expecting a light day that turned out a more moderate one after all :p I had to sit in the car for a very long time with no bathroom to get changed in sight. It was my first go with Emilla pads, so I had no idea as of what to expect. Because of the hot weather and having to sit in the car for so long a period (lol, no pun intended!) I started to feel a bit hot and sweaty, but, as with the Szeléné, I remained leak-free.... : ) So happy and relieved I was! If you were to be an avid cup user, also as cup backup are they excellent! :D Emilla stain stick The Emilla stain stick works wonders. I have quite strong blood and always get stains so I was getting desperate in finally finding a stain stick that would work for me too. I had heard about the Emilla stain stick and that it was supposed to be quite effective and decided to give it a go. I have to say that the women recommending this stain stick were absolutely right in that it does the job properly and probably is the best stain stick around! Out of all my pads I treated, there was only one still stained! I have to mention that the stain that remained was on a blue pad (opposite colour in the spectrum of red so stains more easily) plus that it was only a faint reminder of the stain it had been! After the treatment with the Emilla stain stick thé stain, was merely noticeable anymore. In my opinion, it thus is great and I definitely would encourage you to try it if you are looking for a good one! As an added bonus it is also all natural and thus safe for you and the environment! And, oh my gosh, the smell...! :P If, after reading this post, you would like to buy your own Emilla pads, you can do so on their website. You can switch the currency from the hungarian one to euro via a tab at the lefthandside of the page! Emilla is also supporting the Amps for Africa project I mentioned earlier. If you would like to buy a pad, stain stick or wetbag to donate, you can also do so on the Emilla website! If you can spare the money, please do! You then help a girl to be able to attend school while she's on her period! (I will upload a photo on my donation certificate when I have the time!) |
